System restore restored my folders but not the files in them

Hello

Somehow myself or my roommate deleted two folders from the desktop and emptied the recycle bin after this. I tried to do a system restore and it did restore the folders, but not the files in those folders. Is there was any way to restore the files in these folders? I do not have norton system so I cannot undelete them either. I am not sure if I need to have certain settings for before I do a system restore. Any help would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks.
 
System Restore is not designed to restore personal files:
