How can this be?
Any ideas anyone?

it doesn't matter it's XP home. So only local policy can be applied as it can't join a domain.

Open regedit navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore

Find "DisableConfig" change the value from a 1 to a 0.

Hmmm, have you been turning off any 'services' ?
Is this a 'works' PC ?

Right click on My Computer

Select Manage

Go to Services and Applications / Services

Scroll down to System Restore Service

Set it for Automatic

Click on the Start button to start the service

Close the window.

Try now and see if you have control back. :thumb:

This is a stand alone home pc

i dont have a "manage" tab when r\click "my computer"
i used run-> services.msc

and it is also set to "auto"
