Happy Holidays to everyone!

I just noticed that my system restore is not working. When I go to System
Restore, I can't access it in any way. The Error message I'm getting is
exactly as follows: "The procedure entry point
RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located in the dynamic
link library WINSTA.dll."

I ran sfc: /scannow, hoping that might do some good, but to no avail. I
then re-installed Windows XP PRO and that didn't even fix it. I would think
that a re-install would surely have fixed System Restore. Does anyone out
there know what I can do to fix this?

Thanks for your help...I always get great help here!

Hi,
To solve this problem, perform the steps given below:
Disable and then re-enable the System Restore feature:
1. Click the Start menu -> Run. Type sysdm.cpl in the Open field. Click OK.
2. Click the "System Restore" tab.
3. Click to check the "Turn off System Restore on all drives" box, and click
OK.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Click the Start menu -> Run. Type sysdm.cp in the Open field. Click OK.
6. On the "System Restore" tab, remove the check mark from the "Turn off
System
Restore on all drives" box, and click OK.
7. Restart the computer again.
8. Check whether you can use the System Restore utility.
If that doesn't work, do the following.
1. In My Computer, click the Tools menu -> Folder Options.
2. On the View tab, make sure to check the option "Hide extensions for
known file types".
3. Click OK.
4. Click the Start menu -> Run. Type "%windir%\inf" (Without quotation
marks) in the Open field. Click OK.
5. Locate and select the file "sr.inf". Right-click it and then click
Install.

Chris, thanks a ton for your help. Going down your list from top to
bottom...the System Restore Tab was not even there, so I had no way to
disable, then re-enable System Restore. So I had to go to your alternative
2. In folder options, I did have "Hide extensions for known file types"
checked. So then I ran "%windir%\inf" , and the file I was looking for
(sr.inf) wasn't there. But I was able to find it on the XP PRO Installation
disk, and install it from there. It seems to have worked, because I was
able just now to create a new restore point. Thanks a million for sending
me in the right direction, but I still have a nagging question. Since I
reinstalled Windows XP a couple of hours ago, why didn't it simply install
System Restore properly at that time? It makes me worry that something more
sinister is happening.

Thanks again!
