system restore not opening

Situation:

I have an EVO N600C running under Win XP Pro with SP2.
With this machine I have 2 (presumably identical) hard
disks, in order to avoid problems in case one disk
crashes when travelling.
One of the HDD is in suitcase, the other in the laptop.
HDD 2 is a copy of HDD 1 and I want the two to be
exchangable. The copy was made with Drive Image 2002.

The problem: disk 1 has not the problem which disk 2 has:
the "system restore" operation can not be carried out.

The system restore programme does not start at all (it
worked before, just after installation of SP2).
I get a message:
"System Restore Application has encountered a problem
and needs to close." error report:
"AppName: rstrui.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName:
srrstr.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00009826"

Since I upgraded with SP2, I can not carry out the system
repair from the CD ROM, because it sees that I have a
newer version.

I have made a new copy with Drive Image 2002, the problem
persists
Wat now?

Thanks for replying.

I have had the same problem with drive image. The only
way round it that I have found is to stop system restore
on the original disc before making the image. This seems
to cure the problem on the imaged disc but does pose a
risc to the original disc since all previous restore
points are lost. If you use this solution remember to
reactivate system restore on the original disc after
taking the image.
Hope this helps.
