Hi,

I would suggest trying to repair System Restore.

You will find quite a few troubleshooting steps on the following site.
If you explain just what's happening with SR we can narrow down the
search.
Include any error messages you receive at each step of running SR.

Here are some troubleshooting steps to take when System Restore fails to
restore:

I've used Norton GoBack over the years and have never had any
problems caused by it. It's saved my butt more than once, in
fact.
Usually when I have a problem, I'll first see if a System
Restore Point will fix it and if not, I'll try GoBack. These are
two different animals, however:

REstting to a System Retore Point will basically restore all of
the computer's settings to whatever they were at the time/day you
chose.

Norton's GoBack will actually restore EVERY single file/folder
back to what it was like on the date/time you choose. That means
if you choose to go back to yesterday, all emails, any files
you've saved, etc etc., will go away if they were created AFTER
the point in time that you chose.
If it's a recent version of GoBack, it WILL give you the
chance to look thru all the deleted files and get t hem back, but
that can be a big job.

Often, when something wipes out your system restore points, I've
found that the GoBack points also become garbaged and using it
becomes a little iffy; you may or may not have any points to go
back to.

Since you're in trouble NOW, GoBack isn't going to have any
records to "go back" to, so installing it now won't help your
current problem, I don't think.
I'd see about fixing whatever is wrong first, and once you
have a well running system, then install GoBack and let it start
monitoring. Otherewise, you might record your current problems,
and accidently go back to them inj the future if you forget that
date had problems<g>.

I use Goback and have used it since it was owned by Roxio.
Yes, Goback has saved me many a time especially with a bad install.
I have never used System Restore because I have faith in Goback.
Yes, your hard drive will run more trying to record data on it but I have
never had a hard drive failure in 4 or 5 years.
Goback is one program worth installing on your computer, in my opinion.
Try it and give it a chance.
If you don't like it, then uninstall it.
Follow the instructions on how to uninstall it.
Hint: Disable it when defragging your hard drive.
Just a thought!!!

hi Bert, thanks for your response, i have read the suggested article with
interest, unfortunately system restore is still not working. i have used the
event viewer as suggested, i have found "srservice" but "sr" is not listed, i
wonder if this will help you to help me?
many thanks.
