system restore gives no previous restore pionts HELP!!!!

Today I got a virus called mscache it was detected by my norton anti virus, I was told that this virus was updated Dec 19th 2003. I have cleared the virus using all the directions from norton but it left some unwanted programs on my pc. I now want to restore my sysytem to the earliest restore piont but when I use the wizard it will not let me go back to the previous day or month it only had one restore piont wich was just after the virus was put to quarantine. the file infected was C:\program files\ddm\9616 is this something to do with sysytems restore or is there some other reason. I have tried everything I know and cannot resolve this problem. Can someone please help.

The virus may have corrupted/deleted them, or Norton may have deleted them
to stop your from restoring into a time when you had the virus. It's either
a search and destroy with the unwanted programs, or a clean installation of
Windows.
