System Restore doesn't work

I recently tried to use system restore. When I selected
the date my system shut down and restarted but the system
restore didn't work I had a message saying that the
system couldn't be restored to that date. I tried
several dates and all of them failed. Any Suggestions?

I was attempting to restore to an earlier date because my
grandson has a game that was working last week but it
gets in a loop this week and keeps repeating.
