System Restore Does Not See Drive C

Dell 8300, 3.0GHz, two drives: Maxtor 160 (Drive C) and
Maxtor 120 (Drive F).

System Restore sees Drive C as long as Drive F is not
plugged in. If Drive F is plugged in, System Restore
ceases to monitor Drive C.

Could not find a solution in Knowledge Base.

Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated.

The drives (C & F) are both NTFS and both are working
without problem. But when F is installed, System Restore
no longer monitors C.

Thus as soon as F is unplugged, System Restore begins to
monitor C. If F is re-plugged, then System Restore only
modifies it (F).

I am not trying to Retore either drive at this time, but
I do need System Restore to be monitoring C...not F.

Both drives are jumpered for Drive Select (which appears
to work best with Dell's bios)

Ah, I didn't fully understand this the first time around.

Sorry, but I know no solution. Thus everything I write is based
on supposition.

I would try to remove the references to other drives from

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\MountedDevices

You can delete all the \??\ references if you like and also
those drive letters you don't use any more. Before you do that,
back up the entire key, so you can restore it, should anything
go wrong.

I would try to delete the F: entry in your case. If you then
reconnect the drive and it gets a different drive letter, you
can change it back to F: if you like.

I would do this in the hope that the monitoring is stored
somewhere in there. It could be somewhere else though.
