I used system restore to repair a system failure, but I found out that it
deletd all files downloaded and created since last restore point creation,?
My believe is that it only restore the system files without changing any
thing to user data?

If you are in the habit of downloading executable files to your Desktop, System
Restore will delete any saved there since the restore point was created. The
message here is that the Desktop should be used only to store shortcuts, not
files. Save any files you consider important to another location such as your My
Documents folder.

Take a look at this article for more info.

Good luck

Hi Nepatsfan,

I have recognized that it deletes anything on the desktop but it also
deleted EXE downloaded files from a folder on the root !!!!?
Is that Normal.....

Yup, I believe that can happen. If you want to be sure to protect it, as
I recall, you need to put it in your personal My Docs folder.

It's unfortunate that there's no warning that this will happen when you run
System Restore, but it does. As noted in the article that I cited in my earlier
response, Microsoft expects users to store all their files in the My Documents
folder.

As you've found out, executable files (such as those with the file extensions
listed on that article) that have been saved since the restore point was created
will be deleted unless they're in a safe location like the My Docs folder. The
Desktop and a folder on the root of a monitored drive aren't safe locations.

To make matters worse, some people who have created a separate partition for
their saved files may be in for a surprise unless they've turned off monitoring
of that drive.
