XP Pro SP 1, Admin Privileges, 1024Mb RAM, 2.4GHz processor, 34Gb free disk space.

Around 4/5 tries, when I launch System Restore with the intention of
creating backup points, the wizard gets to the second screen, I select
"Create Backup Point" and then when I push "Next" the System Restore
application crashes before it gets to the next window. About 1/5
times, typically when the machine has just booted up and nothing has
been run yet, the System Restore function creates backup points
without problem. Any ideas? Note that I am not trying to restore my
disk, just create backup points. Thanks.

How much hard drive space do you have left and how much
(%) are you allowing system restore to use? It could be
that, or your low on memory. Check pagefile settings or
upgrade ram.If you are maxing out on hard drive space and
your computer seems to be running OK then turn system
restore off, reboot, turn system restore back on. This
will give you one good restore point and delete the old
ones thus giving you more hard drive space....Good luck.
