I finally am rid of Aurora, ABetterInternet, Trojan
nameshifter and a few others that have been driving me
crazy for weeks. Andy I followed your instructions, have
scanned using ALL my programs and nothing left to be
found.
Questions is, I turned off System Restore but I am not
quite sure if it is safe to reboot my computer.
Please advise and thx for the help.
My suggestion to others who were probably like me and
looking for a quick fix - just follow Andys' instructions
and forget the time and effort of your search for a quick
fix.

It is quite safe to reboot your PC with system restore off. with that off it
prevents anything that was removed from being restored upon rebooting

System restore is only needed when the OS has a error like a over written
system file that can cause the OS to crash or do any damage and it is used
to undo any changes made to those files. i rearly have problems or use it so
i turned it of completly.

WRONG information, DKI. System Restore does NOT restore anything on a
reboot. It only restores files/settings when you choose to use it to
roll back to a specific restore point.

Hi Karen,
If you feel you have the pc stable again, it is safe to turn System Restore
back on again. That ABI is quite the beast to remove.

DKI,

You're most welcome. Just wish the AV vendors would NOT tell folks to
disable System Restore as the first step. 'Tis better to have an
infested life boat than no life boat at all.

Well sadily the AV Vendors ain't going to stop giving that advice any time
soon. But i do agree with the system restore and not turning it off or
telling people not to turn it off. On my familys PC which the rest of the
family use it has been a life saver for them when things go wrong.

Hi Karen

Im sure you already know about the system restore and
have got that clear but here's the way I like to deal
with the restore points once the system is clean as its
prevents anything going wrong.

Goto 'Start Menu' then 'Help & Support' then click 'Undo
changes to your computer with System Restore' When System
Restore opens goto 'Create a Restore Point' then
press 'Next'. Name it and press 'Create' then 'Close'

Next goto Start Menu and to the run and type

cleanmgr

When Disk Cleanup opens goto the 'More Options' Tab and
press 'Clean Up' on the system restore area to remove all
the restore points except the one that was just created ;)

All the best

Andy
