John Ross

I have a virus in my son computer. The virus is in the System Restore
directory but unlike in my XP Pro I cannot change the security privileges to
get the access.

Any suggestions?
Tx.

John;
You do not want to delete the data directly in Windows XP Home or Pro.

Turn off/on System Restore to delete corrupted files:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
Click System Restore Settings on left side.
Check "Turn off System Restore", click OK, follow prompts and reboot.
This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption.
Then go back and turn on system Restore and create a Restore Point.

As you said "This deletes ALL Restore Points including corruption." I do
want to keep the restore points but I want to delete the viris file.

John;
Is your computer running fine now?
If so, there is no need for the Restore Points.
You can also delete all but the most recent (similar to what I
suggested except this one would be slightly older)
Go to Disk Clean-up:
Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Clean-Up
Click More Options tab
Under System Restore, click Clean Up
Follow prompts.
