I recently had issues with my computer continuously
rebooting on it's own. Finally broke down and did the
full system reformat. The error messages I got were that
it was a critical hardware error, etc.. I just re-
downloaded the Anti-Spyware and it started again. Woke
up this morning to a rebooted computer. Just to be
certain I ran another scan this evening and sure enough
shortly after it started the co0mputer shut down and
rebooted. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

The most likely explanation is that your PC has a serious hardware problem,
and needs to be serviced. It probably has nothing to do with any software
you are running.

Windows version is XP. Have had the computer looked at
and they could find nothing wrong with it. Last time it
kept shutting down until I reformatted and it hadn't done
it since, until now. The only thing that has changed
recently was the re-addition of the MSAS.

Hello MMiller,

looks like a memmory problem to me or a to low setting of your
temperature settings of your CPU.
Give me some more info about your Computer and what your running on it!

Thanks Tom!

What kind of info are you needing? (I'm mildly computer
literate, I can run the darned thing and fix most
problems, but the techs get me flustered.) It's an HP
Pavilion 750c. About 3 years old. Running Windows XP
Home Edition. THe only programs I currently run often
are Office 2003, Symantec Client Security (AV and
Firewall), and Yahoo Messenger. I have had the problem
before, but a system recovery rectified it. Is doing it
again, and now can't even run the recovery! Says that
the User Partition cannot be created. About ready to
chuck it out the window honestly. THanks again!

It is tempting to blame the problem on either an app which is running at the
time it happens, or whatever was installed most recently.

However, I agree with Robin Walker--this sounds like hardware to me--I'd
recommend running a good memory diagnostic.

Here's a pointer to one that should be good:

Hello MMiller,

yes, out of the window is a solution, hope nobody just pass! ;)
I still think it is hardware what is the trouble, because MS Antyspyware
use your CPU/Memory/HDD at high rate, but it looks like it damage your
HDD, so i think there is the problem, a hdd that is at his end, also
that you told me that you had this before and you don't run other
programs that use CPU/Memory/HDD at high rate.
Ok to test your memory Bill Sanderson give you a good link to test that:
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
You must download that and install that on a empty floppy, than run it
from floppy at boot.
Then if that give no solution, download this program:
http://www.hddlife.com/
It gives a indication of your hdd.
Look of SMART is on in the BIOS, if not turn it on!
Ok give you some work, but doing those things you only learn from! ;)

regards and i here from you,
