I have read the last few postings on this issue but my problem was not
resolved. I have windows 98, office small business 2000 , 128 MB Ram, Pentium
III, 30 GB hard drive and have no problem opening any software except for
excel and the pop up says system resourses too low and I then have to reboot
my computer. I have reinstalled office 2000 with no luck and I even
customized my virtual memory settings with an opening size of 360 and max of
720 with no luck. I plan on upgrading to windows XP this upcomg week I also
wondered if that will make a difference. Any help is appreciated.Thank
you.Laura Clark

Hi Laura,
Take a look at
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/slowresp.htm

Try for some of the simpler things first, like clearing your temporary
internet files, making sure you've not turned on journaling.

I expect you probably have too many graphics like shapes, buttons,
object hyperlinks (Ctrl+K). A little surprised that going to Excel 2000
did not help at all. You really don't have much RAM, but this may be
graphical memory so it really wouldn't make any difference how much
memory you had unless you tinker with the registry..

You will certainly want more RAM if you are going to upgrade your system
or upgrade to Office 2002. Generally if you need to upgrade 3 things,
you are probably better off buying a new system. I upgraded from 6GB
harddrive to a bad 20GB harddrive to a 40GB HD a couple of years ago,
and recently from 128MB RAM to the maximum for my computer 512 MB
what a difference in performance. But those probably have nothing to do
with your immediate problem..
