No. Besides, restoring that far back would be a Really Bad Idea. What
issues are you having? Maybe if you describe your computer and the
problems we could help you fix them.

Why would that be a bad idea ? IF everything was working great then, what's
the problem ?

I've ghosted my machine with Ghost and did a restore that was two months old
with no problems. That said, It was not a windows restore from the built in
but the same thing.

This is why I don't use the built in restore. It's so limited.

I need someway to get a folder back that i accidently deleted about 3-4 weeks
ago so any program or way i can get it back i will take it. I use Vista
Ultimate and i just want my file back so i really dont care if i lose my
recent stuff, i havnt done much of nething that i'll miss.

System Restore can only restore program and system files. If your folder
contains documents or other non-program files, System Restore won't help.
And if your system shows no older restore points, then there's no way to
restore farther back than what's shown.

As Richard Harper told you, even if you could use System Restore that
far back, it would not give you the (presumably) data folder you
deleted. You might possibly be able to retrieve it with data recovery
software but since so much time has passed there is a high probability
that the area of the hard drive where the deleted folder was has been
overwritten. In that case, the data is for all intents and purposes gone.

I'll give you a list of data recovery software links. It is better to
install data recovery software on a different computer and create
bootable media from there. If that isn't possible, then make sure you
check whether the program is compatible with Vista.

Windows restore will not be usable to go back more than a few days in my
experience, especially if you have installed a lot of new programs in the
interim. All the setting that the new programs placed in the registry will
be lost - leaving you with broken programs.

System restore is **NOT** the same thing as using Ghost, TrueImage or
similar programs.

You should have used a data recovery tool straight away. Using the machine
for another 3 or 4 weeks makes the chances of recovery smaller.

I use System Restore purely in case drivers or some such cause me issues.
Hence I have no need to be able to jump very far back, usually just a couple
of hours. Third Party software is superior when it comes to backing stuff
up.

Never said it was.

But to use system restore to go back to a known working state where it is 1
day old or a month old is not _a_ problem.

That is why I said I don't use it. It's very limited. With a Image program
you bypass all the problems. I much rather restore a working Image from
whatever date then to have nothing at all.

It *is* very limited. It was never mean to be an all-purpose backup
tool. But it's a great way to quickly get you out of trouble created
by a recent change. It undoes such changes quickly and easily. It's
gotten me out of such trouble several times, and I know many others
who have had similar experiences with it.

Imaging is fine. I'm all for it, and recommend it too. But it's not an
either-or situation. They both have their uses, and I recommend using
both. In my view, turning off a tool as potentially useful as System
restore is foolhardy.
