I'm trying to reinstall Win 200 after a virus attack and the system reboots
everytime it attemts to start. I tried to run disk repair from the boot
disks, but to no avail.

Now I'm trying to just start all over and wipe the drive clean, but the
drive letters have changed to R: and S: Sys command will not preform on a
network drive.

What am I to do?

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.

Dave,

Thanks I finallly was able to get Win200 to boot to a safe mode, but I got
the following error: "Setup had problems registerign the following OLE
control dll
c:\WINNT\System32\initpki.dll

Signature for Win 2000 Pro is invalid Error code 800b001

Seems you may need a system bios upgrade.

I ran into this, as I said before, weirdest dang thing every in my life
- it would reboot from ANY computer the user was logged into (power
cycle the unit, not a proper reboot) no matter what station/server she
logged into. Any other user could work properly and without reboot. It
was also only AFTER she had used MS Office or a Office product
(outlook), as long as she didn't open Office it would remain stable.

I tried everything, no spyware, no viruses, etc... The key was when I
noticed that it did it on different physical machines and not just the
one server, it would do it at her workstation or server.

Once I deleted the account, rebooted the server, recreated her account
from scratch, it worked perfectly and never had a problem again.

As for BIOS Updates, I had applied all updates.
