Hi all,

I am running an Abit NF7 motherboard with and Athlon XP 2800+, with
WinXP and 512MB PC2700 RAM and 128MB Abit Siluro Ti4200 graphics card.

During graphically intensive apps like games or just trying to
complete a 3Dmark2001 SE benchmark, my system will reboot itself.

I originally thought it was due to memory as I was running 512MB
PC2100 RAM asynchronously with the CPU, but I have since upgraded the
RAM. Memory settings are configured to optimal in the BIOS, and speed
to auto. Doubt that both the memory types installed are faulty.

With the FSB set to 166, the system will reboot itself. CPU
temperature at the time of reboot is 55-56 degrees C. Is this too hot
for this CPU? Took the case off and it did feel fairly warm inside.
Haven't run it without the case yet.

I've found that underclocking the the FSB helps. Its currently set to
160 and seems to be stable, but I'd like to get back to 166...can
anybody please help?

although that temp. is within spec you should try to get it down

my AMD machine was running pretty poorly as the cpu temp got near 60C

after repalcing the cpu cooler and getting the temp down to about 43C
the machine runs great

Thanks for the info - suspected the temp.

Have ordered a replacement, AMD approved cooler for the 2800+.

hopefully that will solve the problem...
but even if it doesn't it sure won't hurt to have the cpu running cooler

the only other thing i can think of would be the RAM

i;ve had quite a bit of trouble with the lower priced "generic" RAM
and will only stick with the name brand stuff

Is it a high quality brand? Some junky power supplies may be listed
as 450 watts, but still don't put out enough power.

OK, well a 2800+ cooler has now been installed and I put the FSB back
up to 166. At first I thought it was OK because it worked fine for a
while before rebooting once during gaming. CPU temperature at the time
of reboot 50C.

Will check the PSU before looking at improved case cooling.
