Not sure if I should post here but I'm out of ideas. I
have a PIII-866 which has and still runs fine for me.
Long store short: wanted to replace small 20GB slave with
160GB slave and replace older CDROM with new DVD/CD RW
drive.

Since doing that and reverting back to the old hardware,
my sytem gets as far as my login screen then reboots. I'm
at a loss.....any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Is the new hardware recognised in Bios?
You might/probably need a bios update.
There was also I recollect a fix for 'older sys' being able to recognise
large hd's
Try disconecting new hardware, eg pwr leads, then check mb site for
Bios/drivers etc

David, thank you for the reply. The hard drive @ 160gb
exceeds Win2k capabilities from what I gather. I have
tried to run the DiscWizard by SeaGate but only allows me
to format upto 136gb which is unacceptable. I have
disconnected, reconnected old hardware and system still
goes through the reboot.

The only way I have been able to get into Win2k is to run
DiscWizard. After getting and dicking around with disk
management and rebooting, I go back to the same ole thing.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305098
re large hd in Win2K - my sys, with the std win2k updates supports 160gb
drives
Have you the Win2k Boot disk set? you can make a set if you have access to
another sys. You will then have access to a number of Win2k repair options.
If sys was ok before new hardware and with old hardware is now giving probs
Have you double checked all internal connections, double checked bios
settings.
If yr bios has'nt been updated it will allmost certainly need it for the new
hardware

David: I appreciate your replies. I have already flashed
the BIOS to most current and is recognized during the
POST. I have tried to revert back to original hardware but
the problem continued and still continues.

I opted to re-install the new hard drive and dvd rw
figuring that the new hardware was not the issue.
Ironically, when I run Seagates DiscWizard from a boot
disk, it will setup a 136gb partition, leaving 24gb out in
the cold. After running the DiscWizard, the system will
boot up....however, once I reboot the system it starts to
automatically reboot again.

As I said, I have updated the BIOS...replaced the old
hardware and still no luck. Not sure at this point.

But have you tried the Win2K boot disk set and the various contained options
to repair yr Win2k?
Are you able to start in safe mode?
If you can boot to Win you can use the consul to format the slave.
I recently had grevious probs with a Win2K sys, third party format tools
caused much of the problem. It was cured by using Win2K to undertake the
formating
