For eight months now, I have been having problems with the whole system
blocking, with as only error message 'service control manager error'. I work
wiyh windows xp version 2002,service pack 2, have an AMD Athlon 64 processor
2.41Ghz, 1Go Ram. To my knowledge there are no virusses in the system and
after numerous attemts by my technicien, the problem still stays the same :
sometimes, for no known reason, the whole system blocks, and once the problem
starts, it gets worse; after running disk and memory analyses, which show no
faults, the system thenruns normally again for a short period of time. Any
idea would be welcomed with open arms.

Ok, first of all what exactly do you mean by "blocking"? Do you mean it
crashes? Blue screen? Or just freezes up? Or something else?

What exactly is the full text of the errors you see on screen? Are there any
errors in the event log?

I'm always surprised at "professionals" who STILL have to be asked "Have you
checked (event viewer / syslog)".

The system feezes on wathever screen it happens to be at the time. The only error shown in the syslog is service control manager error, as mentioned above. Whitout intervention on my part, after about half an hour it runs a Ckdsk and restarts normally. If applying a restet, sometimes the system restarts, sometimes I need to restart in 'mode sans echec'. Once the system has 'frozen' once, in the days to follow the problem gets worse, till it freezes after about 5 minutes running, on wathever application I happen to start. I have no freeware, only microsoft software, Dreamweaver from macromedia, use internet explorer frequently, have norton antivirus, and adaware antispam running frequently. I am no hardware specialist, but suspect a faulty patch on hard disc, whenever an attempted read or write to that patch, the system freezes. My technicien says all hard disk analyses show a perfect disk. I have run out of ideas, but need the problem solved. I am into website creating ,and run an
accounts program (Ciel devis-factures) for my sons bussiness.Any suggestions would rely help.

It certainly sounds like a hardware problem from what you've written here.
Of course we need to actually catch the problem to say for sure.

I'd start with testing the disk drive. Download a disk testing tool such as
OnTrack's Data Advisor (free download http://www.ontrack.com/freesoftware/),
follow the instructions for using this and see what it reports if you run
all the tests.

thanks, i'll try, system just froze again today, and only managed to restart just now, so who knows if i will be able to get as far as testing software you mentionned, i'll certainly try.thanks

Lets just check you've done the right things here
Download Ontrack Data Advisor
Run the executable program that should be on your system
Let it create a bootable floppy disk
Shut down your computer
Boot from the Floppy disk
Run all tests

Right, I got as far as creating the floppy, in between ssytem freezing several times again. When i boot from the floppy ,i get following message :'Bad or missing command interpreter.please enter a valid file name'. Please help, i have no idea what to answer. P

Did you create the floppy using the instructions on the OnTrack website?

You don't download the program and copy it to a floppy, you download the
program, run it, and it should create a bootable floppy disk.

If this isn't happening then your download might be bad (possible if the
computer keeps freezing). Can you download the program and create the
bootable floppy from a different computer?

You could try to call ReWave at www.rewave.com. I have heard they are
specialists at the blue screen error. They don't charge anything
upfront and if they can't fix your problem.

Good luck.
