In two years of running Windows XP Home the number of
processes shown on my Windows Task Manager have increased
from 27 to 48 and the speed of some applications seems to
have reduced. WTM shows that some processes appear to be
duplicated! A look at the Startup tab of msconfig shows
that some processes relate to applications that have been
deleted. Although the registry entries for these have
also been removed startup still points to the starting
command and location. I assume that the details under
the startup tab are held in a file somewhere. Can anyone
advise where I might find this file or, alternatively,
how I can otherwise remove the offending entries?

Hi, I know that www.kellys-korner.com has instructions
for removing old entries in msconfig I just don't know
where on her site its at,perhaps on the tweaks page. This
other link will describe background processes I'm sure
that if you have never disabled any before you can kill
about 10 for the average user,If you do this write down
which ones you disabled incase you have any problems

Hi, Thanks for the introduction to BlackViper. That guy
deserves a medal. He's done a huge amount to demystify
Services and msconfig and much more. More to the point,
following his advice has solved my problem so thanks to
both!
