Stay away from both. One way or another they will give you grief.

Hope this helps.

The only system optimizer that's worth anything is you...by learning how
to operate your computer wisely and learning how to look after it.

So-called optimizers and registry cleaners are fools gold, marketed to
people who don't know any better. Don't follow the crowd. Instead, join
the savvy computer users and you can laugh (with sympathy, of course) at
the posts from people who've destroyed their computers while
'optimizing' and 'cleaning' them.

Thanks,
Depends on what you are optimizing. My ISP Verizon has what seems to
be a pretty good internet speed tool. It seems to have made my pages
come up a bit better. Not sure if its specific to Verizon or not so
I'm reluctant to put the link. But I've seen other such tools.
Again this may be a bit of "fools gold" as others call it.

If its Xp you are interested in, and have never done anything, then the
simple disk cleanup and defrag tools work well. Then just simply going
through add/remove and cleaning house might help a lot if you can.

You can also download 'autoruns' from Microsoft and use it to disable
some startup programs. I've disabled Nero's scheduler for example, I
don't use it and why have it load and run. You have to do a little
investigating to know what to remove and not.

I wouldn't run registry cleaners.

All of such kinds of software are snake oil and should be avoided.
They won't help you, and the risk of their causing you problems is
very great.

I use a program called CCleaner. It's free and takes a lot of baloney
off your computer.
Do NOT use the registry cleaning feature unless you know what you're
doing.

I've used it for quite a while and never had any problems.

Two points:

1. CCleaner *is* a good program and does many things well. Even its
registry cleaning is less likely to cause a problem than other
registry cleaning programs.

2. The fact that you have "never had any problems" is not surprising.
Most uses of it do not cause problems. Nevertheless the registry
cleaning does nothing useful for you and exposes you to the *risk* of
your having a (serious) problem. If you haven't had one yet, consider
yourself lucky, but that does *not* mean that doing this is not
dangerous.

My advice is to discontinue doing this dangerous, and not valuable
thing.
