Often, not all of my notification icons show in the System Tray. I check
and the app is running - but, without the icon, I can't access the app.
Is this fixable?

Right click on Taskbar. Click Properties. Click Notification Area Tab.
If "Hide inactive icons" is checked, then you have to use Customize to
set which ones to allow. If it's not checked, then something else it
wrong.

Thank you. Something else must be wrong. Any ideas?

My Volume, Network, and Power icons were suddenly both missing and grayed
out in the Notification Area in the Taskbar Properties interface. The
following pretty simple steps just worked for me (although I have no idea
why restarting explorer.exe helps when restarting your computer does not).

Thank you - I copied the procedure and will try it ASAP. One question:
If you have that problem, do you know if this is a permanent fix?

I have run into this problem twice in 3 years. The first time I used a macro
that someone had written that actually does registry changes (can't for the
life of me find it). That worked for about a year.

This one has worked for a couple of weeks - I'm not sure what the
fundamental problem is, but for me this seems to happen when Vista and my
Dell Laptop hibernation hardware/software interface gets confused.
