System / Monitor Unstable

Hi all,

This may seem a simple question for you, so I hope you can help.

I am currently using Windows XP on a system that was purchased around
14 months ago & up until now has been trouble free.

When the system boots up from cold I get a lot of 'interference' &
fast moving lines across the initial black screen ~ as soon as the XP
page everything goes back to normal.

I don't think I have a virus as my definitions are all up to date
& I did a full system scan just a few days ago.

My monitor settings are 1280x1204 @ 60Hz & nothing has been
touched in any of the settings.

Hopefully my monitor has developed a fault & can be exchanged for
a new one as it is only 9/10 months old ~ if that still dosen't cure
it then I'm stuck.

Please help :!:

FWIW, this monitor behavior has been typical since the beginning of
time. It is likely the video adapter starting and the monitor syncing.
Check, though, that the refresh rate is what is required for the monitor
in the display settings. Also review the user manual for the monitor to
properly set any "auto" settings. Otherwise, I would not be concerned.

I've seen this on an old compaq deskpro running XP.. (w/ Maxtrox 8MB AGP & 15"
CRT) I think it's either a driver glitch, or when XP is booting it's testing for
the ideal refresh rate or something.. The machine I've seen do it has always
done it since XP was installed.. only happens on the black bootup screen.. as
soon as you see an XP logo or the desktop, it's fine..

I wouldn't be concerned about this.. I just took it as semi-normal behaviour for
XP..

Chris

Many thanks for your messages ~ I will grab a spare monitor from work
today & plug that in ~ at least that way I can rule out a faulty
monitor.

However if anyone else has any ideas please feel free to post them.

Thanks

Go to the BIOS settings screen. Does it look normal here? If so, you have
nothing to worry about.

60hz is not so great. Bump it up to at least 70 if your monitor will support
it. Your eyes will thank you.

Just to say thanks to all of you ~ I have now tried TWO didderent
monitors from work ~ both our fine ~ turns out that it was the monitor
at fault ~ LG are sending an engineer out soon ! ~ New monitor on its
way hopefully !!

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL &
ONCE AGAIN, MANY THANKS
:D
