When I was running Windows 98 SE, I used System Monitor to keep track of
several things on my computer. I used it in text mode, always on top
and I moved it almost off the right side of my screen. I could just
glance at the right side of the screen to see things like: network
download and upload speed, disk cache size, free memory, swapfile size,
swapfile in use, etc. One thing I liked about it was that it would
automatically change from bytes to kilobytes to megabytes as needed.

The System Monitor program that comes with XP does not look as if it can
be used that way. Is there a freeware program, or an inexpensive
shareware program that can do what I want? Thank you in advance for all
replies.

AnalogX NetStat Live

"AnalogX NetStat Live (NSL)! NSL is a small, easy to use TCP/IP protocol
monitor which can be used to see your exact throughput on both incoming
and outgoing data - whether you're using a modem, cable modem, DSL, or
even local network! NSL doesn't just stop there, it lets you see how
quickly your data goes from your computer to another computer on the
internet; it even will tell you how many other computers your data must
go through to get there! But wait - there's more! NSL also graphs your
CPU usage of your system! This can be especially useful in identifying if
your computer is what's slowing things down, or if it's your internet
connection."

A Professionnal version is under construction and will monitor, alert,
and make statitics about Services/Processes usage
(CPU/RAM/Resources/Alive). Powerfull tool for Servers and Desktop
machines monitoring, it will be able to remote send notify/alerts to
Administrators.

Download TinyResMeter it's only ~100KB, no EXE-compression cheating, no
install needed, just download and launch.
The use of KOL Delphi library and direct API programming permitted such
small code size."

This takes one is a little less user freindly.

I could not tell from your message which one you thought was less user
friendly.

I have now looked at all three of these. I was unable to get Samurize
to do anything useful.

I am now using the other two but neither of them seem to be able to
monitor disk activity (megabytes written and read per second). Do you
know of any that do?

By the way, TinyResMeter has both a pagefile and a swapfile entry. Do
you know what the difference between them is? (I thought they were the
same.)
