Hi

when some users are trying to log onto Access DB they are hit with a box
stating 'Microsoft Access couldn't find file 'system.mdw'/ This file is
required for startup'.

Can anyone please explain why this is occurring and how to fix (not
happening on every pc)

Thanking you in advance

You don't mention the version of Access or Windows...

It likely is that users do not have Windows permission on the folder where
the system.mdw file is located.

I am having the same problem. I recently upgraded from Win98 to WinXP, and
reinstalled Office 2000 Professional. I am trying to open a database that
worked before the upgrade and reinstallation. There should be no question of
permissions, as I am the only user on this computer, and I am the originator
of the file.

Maybe it's due to tighter permissions on win XP?

Access should definitely work on win XP.

Maybe get filemon from www.sysinternals.com, and see what Access is
trying to do with the file in question & where it is trying to find it.

HTH,
TC
