I posted this in the Setup and Configuration 2/26/2004
and got no response so I am re-posting it here where it
seem there are much more posting and responses. I am not
trying to double post

Suddenly whenever I open Access I get this message:

"An error occurred and this feature is no longer
functioning properly. Would you like to repair this
feature now?"

Clicking yes opens a dialog box requesion MS Office SR-1
CD. It seem to be searching for something then another
message appears:

"MS Access can't find System.mdw. This feature is
required for startup."

I un-installed and re-installed Access, still does not
work. I searched and copied the System.mdw and put a copy
on the root of the C drive and this does not fix the
problem

Any suggestion
..

Hi Tim

Normally, the System.mdw in located in the Windows/System directory. Prior to
reinstalling Access it is wise to completely uninstall it prior to
reinstalling.

Good luck

Hi Tim,

The system.mdw file normally belongs in the:

C:\windows\system
C:\windows\system32
or
C:\WINNT\system32

folder, depending upon the operating system you are using. It is not
required that the file is there, especially if you are using a custom one
for security. When not using security, or if you are using the same security
for every database, you can simply join the correct workgroup, and that will
point to wherever you locate it. Join the work group by using the wrkgrp
administrator, normally by starting:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\WRKGADM.EXE

and following the prompts. Or, if using security use a shortcut like:

"C:\Program FilesOfficeXP\Office10\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\Projects\FE.mdb"
/wrkgrp "C:\Projects\Secured.mdw"
