System Logs onto "Default" account

Marie L. Murrell,

I upgraded from ME to XP home. I now have a default
account and an owner account. The system thinks I am the
default account....it uses the default desktop, favorites,
ect.

This is a problem because most software wants the owner to
be logged in to update, etc.

When I start the system....it takes me directly to
"default" account.

What Can I do?

I don't understand all this, but under "defaut"
application data I have Identities, Macro Media,
Microsoft, and MSN6. Under "owner" application data I
have the same as above plus active disk, adobe, adobe um,
help, leadertech, sun and WM tools download.

Under "owner" the desktop folder is empty, the favorites
folder is empty, and local settings has application
data/microsoft/cdburning. I moved the files that were in
the desktop and favorites folder to the default folder
once I figured out the system was logging me on at
"default".

Any advice is appreciated

Hi Marie,

Create a regular user account for yourself. Those two are setup defaults
intended for use until you create your own.

Rick,

Thank you so much for your response. I am trying this as
I type back to you on my laptop. I already have one
account named "Marie Murrell". I will however try to
setup another account.

On this laptop I have a OEM version of XP preloaded on my
laptop, and when I log on....the system takes me to the
settings under "owner". Why Does the desktop (the PC I am
having trouble with) take me to the "default" settings
when I log on to Marie Murreoll?

I just set up a user account with administrative
priveleges. When I first logged onto the account (named
"mom") the system would not let me right click on the
start button (to look in explore). Under start/programs,
there was nothing. So I shut down the computer and
started up again. Came to a log on page....chose
"Mom"....and the system is locked up on the welcome
screen.

Hi Marie,

Tried Safe mode yet? Sounds like some sort of system corruption. How long
has it been since the upgrade?

O.K. After restart I have an account I can get
into....when I go to explore I see I am logged under
something called mom.MARIESDESKTOP.

Now I am the only user on this computer, with two accounts
(Marie Murrell and Mom)...however I have the following
folders directly under documents and settings
1. All Users
2. default
3. mom
4. mom.MARIESDESKTOP
5. owner
This does NOT happen when I add a user to my laptop. It
only gives me the following folders directly under
documents and settings
1. All Users
2. Default User
3. (The name of my oldest child)
4. (the name of my youngest child)
5. Owner.

When I log on to this laptop (Marie)....I go directly to
the settings under "Owner"... There is no folder named
"Marie" under documents and settings.

Why doesn't the desktop (computer I am having trouble
with) do the same thing????

I upgraded about four days ago......but have been working
solid on trying to get system back to what I had.....lots
of work to do because on everything would upgrade easily
from ME to XP...

Marie

The folder names in Documents and settings are the names of any profiles on your computer. Changing a user name will not change this folders.

It doesn't really matter what they are called as long as you have access to you documents and work, beacause you set your username to whatever you want. Is this the problem?

Dan
