What can I do to prevent my operating system "XP home
edition" from locking up when opening pictures?
Computer works fine but always have to do a restart
after working with pictures?
If I view my task manager there are two programs that
need to be shut down first.
~ ctfmon.exe
~ explorer
Any suggestions? I have added memory and now have 512mb.

If the *lockup* occurs immediately upon opening
your pictures folder...the following fix may be
appropriate...

Do you happen to have Adobe PhotoShop or
Elements installed?

If you do...right click on a .jpg file and choose
Properties. Click the Photoshop Image tab
and uncheck the "Generate Thumbnails" button,
then click OK.

If the *lockup* occurs after you open close and
edit several images...it might help to run Disk
Cleanup (all options), Error Checking and Defrag.

And...you may want to increase your Virtual Memory,
