I have installed MS Antispyware, not a problem, running
OK, but, by the looks of it I have run the system
inoculation, now in IE if I click on, Tools > Internet
options, I get the message that 'this operation has been
cancelled.....contact administrator', I am the
administrator. So obviously you cannot change any settings
in IE

You can still get to Internet Options through the control
panel.

I have hunted for the system inoculation feature to
uncheck, whatever I have checked, but I cant find it, any
suggestions anyone?

Thank you

David

Hi

You have all options and rules inside MSAS, check
Realtime protection-Internet agents and
also with Advanced tools-System explorer.

When you look at this first time it might look
rather confusing but it works great after
some time when you finds all settings.

I think we have a much better integration about this when
IE7 arrives.

hi,

thanks for your suggestions, but(!), maybe i should have
said, all internet agents, system agents, application
agents i set to inactive in the hope that this would solve
the problem and it hasnt worked.

in Realtime protection-Internet agents, i have not altered
anything and have not blocked anything.

once i had reset the agents to inactive i tried a
restarting (you never know) just incase, but no luck.

still no access to Internet Options through IE

Any other ideas?

Hi

You must have something within your policies.

Application Agent: Internet Explorer Restrictions
What does this Application Agent do?

The Internet Explorer Restrictions Agent monitors Internet
Explorer restrictions.

What is Internet Explorer restrictions?

Internet Explorer restrictions are a security measure that
prevent you from changing the options or home page in
Internet Explorer. Restrictions are activated by changing
registry settings. These options should only appear if your
administrator has authorized them.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/prodtech/windowsxp/secwinxp/xpsgch06.mspx

and

http://www.windowsecurity.com/tutorials/Windows_XP_Professional_Edition_Local_Security_Policies.html

Perhaps you can find out which policy to change for IE settings.

I like Plun's idea of looking at the policy settings--that, or a custom
version of the browser distributed or modified with the IEAK are the ways I
could imagine creating this situation.

I don't think this effect relates to Microsoft Antispyware--at least, yours
is the first such post since the program released that I've read. Did you
do a scan and remove some things? Maybe there'd be a clue in the
cleaner.log file in the Microsoft Antispyware installation directory. That
should list each object removed.

If you go to start, run, type in "gpedit.msc" without the quotes and hit
enter.

Navigate to Administrative templates, windows components, Internet explorer,
Internet Control panel.

What settings do you see there?
