What specifically is the problem you are trying to fix. Be specific
with information on the computer configuration, what problems there are,
when they occur, what changed when the problems started, specific error
messages, etc.

What specific problem are you trying to fix? What is the _exact_
wording of the error message? WinXP doesn't even use the SYSTEM.INI
file; it's present only to provide some backwards compatibility with
legacy applications that need it.

XP does not use system.ini itself, and will be happy enough without it.
What has happened is that some old, non XP program has tried to put a
driver into it that is causing trouble. Provided you have a 'proper' XP
CD, Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard Disk. Boot the XP CD and,
instead of Setup, take the immediate R for Repair. Assume any password
requested is blank, and TAB over.

Give
CD \Windows
REN system.ini oldsys.ini

and see if it will now boot. You will find some program you have
installed complain; you will probably have to accept that it is *not*
going to work with XP
