In Windows 98 the System Information Utility allowed
users to delete hidden startup programs but I do not seem
to have that option in Windows XP. I have a program that
automatically starts when I log in and I want to delete
it from the startup group. Anyone know how I can do that?
Thanks

Andre;
System Configuration Utility is accessible exactly the same in Windows
XP as in Windows 98.

The best way to keep an application from starting up is from within
the application.
Look for "Settings", "Options" or something similar, then look for an
option to start-up at boot or similar wording.

Some applications if they are disabled from MSCONFIG simply create a
new entry.
There could end up being several entries in MSCONFIG for a single
application and still one checked with the application starting.

MSCONFIG is intended for troubleshooting and not to leave applications
unchecked permanently.

Because it's a troubleshooting tool. Any program worth it's salt will notice it's registry entries are missing and fix it. The correct way is in the program itself. Either a Option/Configure menu on the icon or in the main program in it's options.

Thank you both for your responses.
