My AVG virus detector Resident Shield repeatedly reports
the following infected file on a customer's disk drive,
temporarily attached to my machine

\System Volume Information\_restore{90F3D798-59BE-4316-
8F36-F76FB0E6D1A\RP704\A0202426.DLL

The AVG main program found and fixed 12 infected files and
removed the infector.

OS on host machine: XP PRO
Logged on as: Administrator
OS installed on target drive: Win 2000 PRO
File system on Target drive: NTSF
Usual drive letter on target drive: C:
Target drive letter on test machine F:
Infecting File: ISTSVC.EXE
Virus reported as: ISTBAR.X

Search for A0202426.DLL yielded no results.
System Volume Information reports no files and no folders
in Properties.
Attempts to open the folder report Access Denied.
The Read Only Attribute of the folder is set and cannot be
changed.
AV scan of the folder reports no infected files.

Can you tell me?
1. If A0202426.DLL is a legit file and if so its
function?
2. How to access \System Volume Information to
replace or remove this file?

Many thanks

1.) Probably ok. This must be Windows XP and they would function as part of
the restore points.
2.) ADD your username to the security tab
