Hi,

Using Access 97 and 2000.

When you go to 'About' on the Access menubar it brings up
a box with Product ID, etc. There is a button
called "System Info" that opens up some program I'm
guessing that displays all the computer's system specs.

Is it possible to duplicate this on my own About form? If
so, how can I do this?

Thanks,

Create a command button that runs the "system information" program. Check
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information for the
target to the program. In windows xp, it is "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe"

Hi Kevin and thanks for your time.

Ok, using your information I made a command button with
the following code:

Call Shell("C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\MSINFO\MSINFO32.EXE", 1)

(Line wrapping there)

That works just like it should, thanks!

Just one concern I think. What happens if the path is NOT
the same across operating systems? I just checked on 98,
NT, and 2000 and it is the same, but I'm sure this is
choosing a default Windows installation. What happens if
the path is not the same? I know I could trap the error
and ignore it, but it would be great if there is some code
or maybe an API call that can determine exactly where that
file is located on the hard drive. Any idea on how to code
that by chance?

Thanks again for the help,

But that's not guaranteed to be the same on all machines. This code routine
(stolen proudly from a VB6 auto-created "About Form") works fine in my
2000/2002 projects on XP Pro, can't vouch for other OS:

Hi Scott,

Awesome code, thanks!!
Works just fine on my 98 machine after I had to correct
all the word wrapping.
I will test on other operating systems tomorrow.
Thanks so much Scott and Kevin this is exactly what I was
looking for.
