After long period of no work and screen saver active the
system idle routine is eating 99% of the process. Only
way out is to re-boot. This seems to be a XP Home
problem but I can not find a fix. Any ideas would be
helpful.

Try having the computer do something, open a program.

Idle means not doing anything - waiting for work. 99% is NOT being used.

So let's get this straight...you're worried because 99% of your CPU cycles
are *IDLE*...and, when you reboot, 99% of your CPU cycles *AREN'T* idle.
Everybody else here would consider the former to be an ideal state of
affairs - but not you, apparently. Apparently you'd much rather have a slow
and sluggish system than a well-oiled machine. Oh well, it takes all
sorts...

Suggest you look up 'idle' in a dictionary. When you've done that, you might
want to look up 'idiot' too...
