Hi All,

Recently I have noticed that the System Idle Process is
consuming a huge load of CPU even right after a
reboot...We are talking about 80% CPU usage...Anyone got
any ideas???

I am running a Dell Inspiron 8000, 1ghz, 512mb ram...

Thanks in advance...

The System Idle Process runs only when no other processes are
using the CPU. Thus, when the CPU is idle, the System Idle Process
is in action, executing special halt (HLT) instructions that put the CPU
into a suspended mode and thereby cooling the processor. It uses up
quite a bit of CPU time but very little memory.

Basically, it's reducing the amount of potential harm being done to
your CPU by being switched on
