I installed 64bit OEM on my newly assembled system
http://tinyurl.com/33pzjg which has a single 1gb PC5300 stick
just two days ago. I am waiting for a 2nd 1gb memory stick to come in
before activating. In the mean time I started installing all those on-line
upgrades. Either one of the upgrades or something I activated in vista (??)
has really slowed down the system. At one point it got so bad that it was
taking at least 5 minutes before a response was displayed on the screen to a
mouse click and it was necessary to cycle the power and reboot.
I disabled the user confirmation (or whatever it is called) and that seemed
to make an improvement as vista no longer asked me if I am sure I want to
execute a program.
Currently, I cannot finish the install of service pack 1 to Visual Studio
2005. It bogs down really bad. I have to install that SP (supposidly)
before I intall the Vista service pack to VS2005pro. What I find strange is
the entire install of VS2005 finished in about 10 minutes yet the service
pack release (450mb executable) ties up all resources within seconds.
I have McAfee 8.5 which is supposed to work with vista. McAfee 8.0 did not.
Unaccountably I cannot disable McAfee 8.5 while doing that install.
Is there anything in home premium that can be shut down to free up resources
until my 2nd stick of memory comes in?
