3.0GHz running on a MSI 865PE Neo2 motherboard, with 512MB
DDR, a 120G HDD and a ATI RADEON 9200SE VGA, a Creative
Sound Blaster Live 5.1, a sony 1.44 floppy drive and a
52/32/52D TKD CDRW drive, and i got this problem whenever
i load in a cdrom game to play and during the 1st or 2nd
minutes after the game starts, the system will HANG...and
the only thing i can do is to press the "restart" button
on the cpu....Does anyone knows what is the problem here?
This "HANGING" situation only occur when i load in a cdrom
to play game.

I NEED HELP, anyone please?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Sad and need help,
Eve

With the information provided, it is a challenge. It would help to know both
which games, and therefore how many games. But with what you have described,
the first thing that comes to mind is a problem with the video driver.
Actually, no, that's the second thing. The first thing is to ask whether
this hardware or this system is on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL).
You can find a version of this on the Windows CD, or a more updated listing
on the Microsoft web site. As for the video driver, the Windows Update site
can inform you if Microsoft has a more updated driver available than what
you have installed, which may not be the most current driver that ATI
provides. The ATI web site can help you address whether or not you have the
most current driver for your card. I use ATI cards in most of my home
systems, and the driver upgrade is usually non-trivial.

Hi,

Thank You very much for your advice and explanations. I
really do appreciate it.
I only have two games installed, "Counter Strike CZ"
and "Need for speed underground"...Playing a music CD is
no problem but whenever i load in the game CDrom, the
system hangs.
You were saying about the HCL on my system, i do not
really understand...can you guide me to where i can
download a driver or sort with regards to the HCL you
mentioned?

Thank You very much

regards,
Eve

First, the HCL is the Hardware Compatibility List. See
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx.

This page also has a link to Windows Update at the bottom, so, follow that.
It should let you know what updates are available for your system, including
any updated drivers Microsoft has for your video card. As for the ATI site,
if you are not used to upgrading drivers, I would recommend that you get
help with this, either from a very knowledgeable and patient friend, or from
the vendor who sold you your computer. Assuming that this system is
relatively new, your system vendor should be willing to help you with the
driver update as a one-time courtesy. Explain to them (or show them) the
problem that you are having.

You posted requesting more information about the HCL. The Hardware
Compatibility List lists components that have been tested to work with a
given version of Windows. Any item not on the HCL cannot be guaranteed to
work with that version of Windows. Your system is having a problem that is
most likely caused by the video driver or the card itself, but could also be
caused by the CD drive, or the motherboard itself, for instance. It could,
however, also be a problem with your version of DirectX, so you could check
with the game vendor's web site or the game's listed system requirements to
make sure your are current. To determine your version of DirectX, run dxdiag
from the run dialog.
