Hello,

I've got a PC with an ASUS board and Athlon XP processor. Sometimes
when I boot the monitor will stay off, orange light as if it is off,
and I will see the hard-drive light lit solid....and no activity. If i
press reset it will work most times and boot right into windows after
that.

Now I thought it might have been a HDD problem, because I had one 40GB
drive in it. But today I upgraded and put two 80GB drives in it, and
it still did it once on boot.
Any idea what might be causing this?

thank you.

Most often it's due to an insufficient or failing power
supply. If the power supply is generic you might simply
need same capacity more accurately rated (name-brand).

More rarely a bios bug might cause it, but power is the
first thing to scrutinize. If you've a multimeter, (or at
least in the hardware heatlh screen) note voltage levels.
3, 5, or 12V too low OR too high might be a sign of a
problem. Along same line of thinking you might remove all
parts nonessential to getting it to POST and see if that
increases rate of successful POST, which is usually a sign
that the load on the power supply had been reduce enough for
it to cope.

Which specific model and revision of Asus board?
How often will it fail to POST?

Sound like your AGP display card is lose, try to unmount and remount
it.
If say you are having onboard display chip then try to check the
monitor cable connection.
