System Freezes

I am using XP SP-1 5.1.2600

Ocassionally the system just freezes. It does this
regardless of the program running at the time and I
usually only open one program at a time. If I can open
the task panel when this happens it will show the CPU at
100% and no other programs running. If I just wait it
will usually but bou always unlock after 3-10 minutes

I am also using XP and the system freezes all the time
just like you are experiencing. I also see that my CPU
is in the 90% usage or more if I can reach the task
manager. I am on a AMD Duron 750 MHz. I also receive a
popup message from Internet Explorer Update that
says "run-time error # and the option to click OK. I
have checked for updates but I am up to date. I am
beginning to think the problem lies in the Internet
Explorer Program. It becomes frustrating when writting
an e-mail and the screen freezes. I have never waited
the time you mentioned so I have not found out if it
unfreezes. I just shut it down and lose my message.

Could be a problem in your Memory, check 2 things out... one if you have enough memory ( I am using 512K and still sometimes get lock ups ) or check your power supply if your not using enough power for your hardware sometimes windows will lock up because of this also ... good luck ..

The task manager always indicates sufficient memory. My
hardware is a Dell laptop with nothing added. Thanks for
the suggestions

Your run-time error may be caused by a pop-up blocker. I
am using Earthlink's protection one of which is pop up
blocker. If I try to go to a link that calls for a new
screen I get this message until I turn pop up blocker
off. I don't believe the problem is IE but somewhere
within XP.
