My system just started to freeze up when opening word documents. First it did it when I tried to open thru the shortcut on my mainscreen. I was able to find a document and doubleclick and open it successfully, but after doing this to a couple of documents, this too started to freeze up. I then was able to get into a document by using START/open a word document. However, after doing this a couple of times it also started to freeze the system. I can access these documents thru another word-processing system (word perfect) and the documents all look OK. I have the latest updates to Word97 and have the most current virus-scan software.
I believe this started to happen after receiving a word document thru email that had an underscore as part of the file name. I had no problem opening it or saving it using its original name, but I did later change the name to remove the underscore.
Any help would be appreciated.
