System freeze up

Hi,
I have a second computer which is a HP Pavilion XP788, 1
gig, 60 gig hard drive, ME operating system. I turn on the
computer and after approximately 10 to 15 mins. the
computer freezes up and I have to restart it.I have only
used about 10% of the hard drive. Do you have any
suggestion as to how I can correct this problem? The
computer is not usable.
