System fonts are screwed up!

Whenever I have a pop up menu-- either when I need to modify my print settings before printing, or sometimes in programs, say when I need to browse to open a file, the fonts that are diplaying the prompts on those menu windows are sometimes so big or bold, that they no longer fit and I cannot access or see some of the options available. Does that make sense to anyone? If so, can you help me fix the problem? Unfortunately, my Compaq was preinstalled with XP home, so I do not possess the disc, is there anything I can do???

What screen resoltion are you using? Too low a setting may cause some
boxes to be inaccesable without a lot of work.

I am using 1024 x 768 on a 19" CRT with a 32 MB NVIDIA card. Thanks for responding, Vince
