Hi,

The W2K server system folder is almost full (400 MB left out of 4 GB) and the event viewer displays a message to delete files. I have already moved the paging file to another drive when I got this message an year ago.
How can I create more space in the system drive as there are no more files to be deleted.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Guhan,

Delete any temp files, a defrag might be an idea but you might not have enough disk spcae to run it.

Can you not extend the size of the volume?

Hi Techy,

Thanks for the reply. I have deleted all the temp files. Is it ok to defrag the system folder or extend the folder using third party software?

thanks again.

like i said it may not defrag due to the lack of space plus i it won't make that much free space.

There is always an element of risk extenting a volume with or with third party software but in this situation you don't have much choice.

if you can't move any more data from the C volume then just take a backup of the server and extend the volume.

I will try to extend the volume as suggested.
Thanks for your help.

Update on System Folder

Hi Techy,

Please refer to article Q272425.

"When you create a system-state backup on a domain controller (DC), the NTDS logs are not cleaned up. The NTDS logs are being copied from the Edb.log file to an Edbxxxxx.log file each time backup runs, but the Edbxxxxx.log files are not deleted."

Once I deleted the EdbXXXXX.log files it created 500 MB of space. My current system folder free space is 950 MB.

Thanks again for your replies,

Guhan
