Because of a mistake I made while installing Vista, I wound up with the
system files (about 1.6 Gig) on one small D: drive while all of the remaining
Windows files (over 50 Gig) on the large C: drive. I now want to remove the
D: drive and replace it with a large one. How do I move the system files to
the C: drive?
 
Hi,

You'd have to reinstall to the C: drive, you can't just move the system
files. Programs currently installed under the D: installation would have to
be reinstalled.

Some drives offer a utility to copy from an existing drive to the
replacement, you might want to see if yours offers this feature. The install
would still be on D:, but you'd have more space to work with.

I'm assuming the system partition is on the small D: drive. One thing
that you can easily try is remove the D: drive. Then boot from the
Vista DVD, and perform a boot repair operation.
 
Andy; have a think about what you advised him.

He takes D: out.
System files are on D:.
You tell him to do a boot repair; has to be on C: that he does it.

What is he going to repair; there are NO system files there!!!!!!!

If you don't know, DON't give advice!

I left out an important step in my prior message: first you have to
make the primary partition on the C: drive active using Disk
Managment. Then boot from the Vista DVD and perform a boot repair.
This will create the Boot Manager files on the C: drive.
