A C

I am using a new laptop (XP Home) - and have spent a few days checking,
and installing my favourite Apps.

However, sometimes, for no reason I can make out, I get an error message
before startup is complete, that (something like) -
'some system files are changed from the originals. To replace them ,
insert the original XP CD'

If I choose 'continue', I get a warning that to proceed might lead to a
(non standard) possibly unstable, system, so I go back, find the CD, and
click 'Retry' (read CD).

The CD then runs, and I get the XP initial welcome and Install? screen,
and I then choose to not install XP again (!) and close the window. It
all continues normally then, and I remove the CD.

What is wrong?
Is an App causing trouble?
Is there a prob with the XP installation?
everything else seems to check out ok?

How can I find out what is going wrong please?

Sounds to me like you installed something that altered your system files (not good, not good at all!). If your system files have been changed or altered due to something you installed. Try uninstalling some of the stuff you put on there recently and reinstall xp. You won't lose any info by reinstalling xp as long as you don't reformat the hard drive. This may correct your problem. Finding out what app may have changed your system files is beyond my knowledge. Maybe someone else will respond.....
