Hi,
Talked with tosiba about this nice error, was told it is a microsoft glitch. The answer from them was to go and purchase Windows XP. I found that strange since I thought I did puchase it. Since they give you there disks and not an original windows disk I will not be able to correct this problem with repair unless I spend the 199.00 to purchase windows xp. The other solution is to use there disks and completely wipe out my sytem, which unfortunately has not been backed up. I would like to know if there is anything else I can do? Thanks

Try going to start..run..and type sfc /scannow it will check for missing or
corrupt files and replace them.

Hi Susan,

I think you need the recovery console, however, check these articles
for more information:

Microsoft Windows XP - Using Recovery Console
If you cannot start your computer in safe mode or by using the Last
Known Good Configuration startup option, you can use Recovery Console.

Microsoft Windows XP - Installing and Using Recovery Console
Before you install Recovery Console, you need to be aware of the
following disk and file system limitations.

Recovery Console Fix for XP SP1 (Line 58)

Recover from a Corrupted Registry Preventing Win XP from Starting

Good luck

Susan, what is this 'error'? Perhaps someone here may help without
resorting to the use of WinXP, on CD or not. Secondly, the software came
with the computer when you bought it; i.e. it came as an integral part of
the whole package of your purchase. A legal contract was established
between the purchaser, i.e. you, and the vendor, i.e. the shop selling you
the Toshiba laptop, at the moment money was handed over and they accepted
it. Now, the good is faulty. If this is still within the warranty period,
the shop is legally bound to sort out the problem, not Toshiba nor
Microsoft. Go back to the shop. Don't let them fob you off.

Bee.
