System File Checker Problem

Since adding SP-1 to Win XP, (I think this is the reason), System File
Checker no longer works without constantly requiring the original CD to be
in the drive - every time I run SFC (even within a few minutes of just
running it). I suspect that SP-1 changes some of the original files - so an
update of SFC should be made available. Anybody else have this problem?

Jamoke;
I've always needed the CD.

System File Checker (Sfc.exe)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...prodtechnol/winxppro/reskit/prmb_tol_lkth.asp

[System File Checker (Sfc.exe) is a command-line tool that examines protected system files
on your computer and restores the correct versions by using backups stored in the Dllcache
folder or files copied from the operating system CD.

Protected files include those with .sys, .dll, .exe, .ttf, .fon and .ocx file name
extensions. Due to disk space considerations, storing all protected files in the Dllcache
folder might not practical, especially on computers with limited storage space. Therefore,
you must be ready to provide the Windows XP Professional operating system CD when prompted
to do so.]

Thanks - but I've always run SFC without the CD. SFC should only need the
original CD if a protected file is corrupt and needs to be replaced. That's
my understanding. Doesn't that make sense? I'd like to run SFC at times
when I don't have the original CD available. Thanks..........

Bobby;
Whatever blows your skirt up. Personally, I think you're beating a dead horse.

Happy New Year.

I am sure that SP1 chamged some original files, but your dll cache
will have changed too! You will still need your original CD. If you
have any doubts, rerun the service pack again after you do SFC. The
only way you will not have to use the original CD would be to have a
copy of it somewhere on your hard drive or network.
Good luck
