Errr wut?!

When my game freezes up, what I think is the PSU causing this ... I restart the computer and sometimes get a "System failed VDA check" blasted through my speakers

Now, is this the PSU? What component controls the VDA???

Merci - Gman

Could be be system failed VGA check? If it's speaking it then they would sound similar - if so, it something to do with your graphics card. Perhaps your card is overheating?

Ahh VGA ... yeh it is coming through my speakers

Overheating ... hmmm kinda odd seeing as I have the side of my case off atm ... maybe it needs a hoover out :S only happens when i play games aswell

so its the GFX and not PSU??

That 'verbal' warning is a POST check warning, before Windows loads ... usually means a fault in some way. In your case, it is telling you the VGA, your video card, is at fault.

RTFM ... it tells you. ;)

It could be an underpowered PSU, heat, the ram on the card or a fault developing.

Oh crap - sounds bad!!!

What shall I do?

It only occurs when playing COD4 ... and didnt use to happen before! Shall I try out a new PSU and see if that does the trick?

And RTFM??

I dunno what PSU you have, so I cannot recommend another ... I would check the graphics card as I would have used a good/correct PSU to start with ... ;)

RTFM = Read The Feckin Manual. :p

or

Don't play COD4. :D

It is ... but it does seem hot (The card not the fan) , but I wouldn't know what the normal temperature of it should be because I dont check it often ... well I have never checked it!

My mate has a spare PSU hanging about, il try his ... it has more power and is a better make, so hopefully that'll work

If not, time for an upgrade!

Optimise your case cooling and look at investing in a better aftermarket cooling solution for the gpu.

It started happening when the side of the case was on, so i took it off and was working fine for a few months (since COD4 came out!)

Now its happening again, and the side panel is off, surely thats a lot of cooling?

So did ya give it a dusting?
my friend had a similar 'verbal warning' not sure what caused it- but after a while you learn to ignore it :D
does it happen in game or what?

When playing COD4 my monitor just goes black on occasions, so I restart it and this is when the verbal warning comes into play, ONLY WHEN THE SCREEN GOES BLACK

All the other times it is fine, if i restarted now whilst writing this post it would boot usually

Il give it a clean and stuff, see if dust is the culprit
