Amy

I keep getting a message that says "...has encountered a
problem and needs to shut down" Whatever program,
whether it is Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer,
Microsoft Works, etc... will then shut down and I cannot
get it to open without restarting the computer. I
checked my "event viewer" and found that when this is
happening it is a "system error" and the category number
is 102. I tried the W32.Blaster.worm repair but the
problem started before that worm so it was not found. I
have tried restoring my computer but it still has the
problem. Also, after I restored my cd burner stopped
working. I would appreciate any help that can be offered.
(My computer is an emachine T1840).

Sounds like the MS Blaster worm (virus).

If you get a message something like:

RPC - windows will shut down in 60 seconds

Definitely!

Hi,

In Event Viewer, do you see a BCC code? Code you please post back with this
information? It may help to decipher what sort of stop error you are
encountering. FWIW, I haven't seen nor can find much relating to category
102, but the BCC error code might help or can at least tell us what sort of
error you are getting.

Oh, and on the CB burner, see if this helps:

Under section 8 - Problems - there is a link to a patch that often resolves
this problem

Rick,
Thank you for your reply and sorry for posting in various
groups - this is my first time and I figured if I did it
that way someone would know what was going on.

Anyway, I checed in my event viewer again this is what
info is there: Type:Error (with a red circle with x in
middle) Date: 3/5/2004 Time: 10:33:57PM Source: System
Error Category: 102 Event: 1003 User: N/A Computer:
MCDERMOTT.

That is all there is. Is there somewhere else I should
look for that BCC code? I really appreciate your help.
My email address is (e-mail address removed) if that would
work better for you. I will try that other link and see
if it helps with the cd burner. I'll let you know.
thank you again.

Hi Amy,

Please double-click that error in the event viewer, there should be more
details there.

Rick,

I think maybe I got it figured out. Contacting emachines
they told me to remove everything from my start up and
remove all services. I did this earlier this morning and
so far so good. I am going to keep your name handy
though if you don't mind - just incase it is just a
temporary break from it. I am still working the cd
burner issue but that is the least of my worries. Thank
you so much for all your help and if you don't mind I
will contact you here if I have any more problems.
