System drags to a halt

My computer is basically unusable since is so slow
processing comands and error messages start appearing. I
have done virus checks and the system is clean.
Therefore, I am assuming it is the updates to windows that
were downloaded. (xp kb828035 & xp kb810317) I have try
using the system restore function to restore the computer
back beyond these downloads but to no avial. Some of the
error messages have been "kernal.stack.inpage.error" or
system has recovered from a serious error with the error
signature "BCCode: 7a BCP1: Co3e6228 BCP2: F988A000 BCP4:
09B1D8C0 OSver 5_1_2600 sp1_0 product 768_1"

Any suggestions!?!?
